MAFC Kites vs Elite Development Coaching
2–1 Loss
Game of two halves today.
Another slow start for us, not really firing on all cylinders — maybe thinking it would be an easy game. Having played EDC a few times before, we’re very familiar with how they set up super defensively. But today they surprised us, switching to four at the back, which nullified our wing play.
They caught us on the break and scored an easy goal, putting us 1–0 down.
The second goal was a bitter pill to swallow.
I’d made a point in my messages to the boys before the game: do not stop until the whistle goes. We have a habit of reacting before the whistle, which leaves us exposed if the referee doesn’t stop play in time. Even if we think we’re right, if the game carries on we’re on the back foot — and today was a perfect example.
We stopped before the whistle (thinking it was handball) and the opposition carried on, scoring because the ref didn’t stop the game.
Second half we changed formation to 3‑3‑2.
We stopped half the long balls, created so many more opportunities with quick passing and movement. It was like night and day. We just need to start every game like this — no more slow starts.
We have some tough games ahead. We need to be focused from the first whistle, listen to instructions, and keep cool heads.
Enjoy your weekends and we’ll be back at it on Monday.
Cheers, J
