*Kestrels Slow Start to Flying Finish – Kestrels Soar to Victory!*

*MAFC Kestrels vs Eversley & California Aces*

An early kick-off this week with the squad again stretched by injuries that continue to mount up. We faced another new side to the league who had already picked up two wins, so we knew it wouldn’t be easy. The message was clear – take the game to them, play with energy, and look to dictate the play.

*1st Half*

We started a little slower than usual, which gave our opponents the confidence to settle into the game. Some sloppy play and a lack of urgency at the back allowed Eversley & California to take the lead 0–1 with a simple finish after we failed to clear our lines. That early setback could easily have shaken us, and the visitors looked dangerous again shortly after – but Henners was alert and dealt brilliantly with the threat.

That seemed to be the wake-up call we needed. From that point on, the lads raised their intensity, moved the ball quicker, and started to dominate. The response was outstanding.

⚽ 1–1 – Strong play from Jack set up Thomas, who broke through and calmly slotted home the equaliser.
⚽ 2–1 – Brilliant team play through midfield, with Max heavily involved down the left. Thomas slipped the ball back into Jack, who finished smartly to give us the lead.
⚽ 3–1 – Max again causing havoc on the left, driving forward and finding Archie, who struck with confidence.
⚽ 4–1 – A trademark Max corner floated perfectly into the box and met by Maxi, who powered home a header.
⚽ 5–1 – From halfway, Maxi launched one of his huge trademark throws that found Jack, whose clever run and composed finish sealed his brace.

From being 0–1 down, the turnaround was incredible – showing real character, belief, and quality to take control of the game before half-time.

*2nd Half*

With a strong lead at the break, the challenge was different – stay organised, protect the squad, and manage the game smartly. We also took the opportunity to hand Stanley his Kestrels league debut 👏.

The second half was about discipline. The lads kept possession well, defended with focus, and made sure we didn’t let the opposition back into the game. Not only did we keep a clean sheet in the half, but we also continued to create the better chances going forward.

*Coach’s Notes*

The way we started gave us problems, and it was a reminder that if we’re not sharp from the first whistle, opponents will take advantage. But the reaction from the boys after conceding was exactly what we want to see – energy, teamwork, and determination to turn the game around.

It almost ended being a complete team performance: ruthless attacking football in the first half, and mature game management in the second. I’m extremely proud of how every single one of the lads responded today. Performances like this show our strength, depth, and the togetherness of the squad.

🏆 *Man of the Match*
*Ted* – Excellent in defence. Relentless in his challenges, strong in his positioning, and played a key role in shutting down opposition attacks while helping us build forward.

Brilliant effort today, lads – from a slow start to a dominant response, full of pride, belief, and togetherness. Wishing all the lads currently suffering with injuries a speedy recovery – we can’t wait to have you back with us soon! 💪

Well done, Kestrels! ⚽️🔵🟡
