The opening stages were competitive and physical, but the Kestrels started sharper than in recent weeks. We dominated possession and looked the more likely side to break the deadlock. That breakthrough arrived when Maxi’s long throw caused panic in the Storm box, and under pressure, a defender could only divert the ball past his own goalkeeper. 1–0 Kestrels.

The game then took a difficult turn as Jack was forced off with a knee problem. We wish him a speedy recovery. With Thomas stepping in and the side operating with a bare nine, the challenge intensified – but belief never wavered.

That belief was rewarded. Some excellent midfield play from Maxi moved us into dangerous areas before he found Max, who finished confidently to make it 2–0.

Storm responded after a moment of hesitation at the back. A lack of conviction in clearing the ball allowed Storm an opening. Henry did all he could, but a deflection spilled loose and was turned home. 2–1, game back on.

If there were any doubts, Max erased them emphatically. Picking the ball up in midfield, he showed bravery and determination, driving through challenges, shrugging off pressure, and powering into the box before beating the keeper. A superb solo effort. 3–1.

The Kestrels then produced the goal of the match. Slick football from the back saw Maxi recycle possession, Henners play a clever short pass into Jesse, who fed Bobsy. A perfectly weighted through ball found Archie, whose run and finish were outstanding. 4–1, and full control restored.

The closing stages saw frustration creep in, with Storm resorting to clipping heels and slowing the game whenever possible. This is something we must expect – being top of the league means every opponent treats us like a cup final. The reminder is simple: keep it about the football and let our quality do the talking.
