MATCH REPORT: KESTRELS HIT NINE IN FRIENDLY WIN π΅π‘
Kestrels vs Woking Town Romans β Friendly Fixture
After a weekend without a fixture, we arranged this friendly match as part of our preparation for next week.
The main focus for today was on a number of key coaching points. We wanted to encourage the lads to take fewer touches, improve their link-up play, work hard off the ball to create space, and make better use of the channels. Patience in possession was another big message, ensuring we waited for the right moments and took our opportunities after working hard to create them. Defensively, the emphasis was on playing out from the back rather than going long, with both the left and right backs encouraged to get on the ball and look to play.
We made life a little difficult for ourselves in the first half, but gradually grew into the game. Despite this, we restricted our opponents well and did not allow them any real opportunities at our goal. Some excellent work from our defensive players kept the door firmly shut throughout. Going forward, we also created chances of our own and showed some really encouraging signs of the coaching messages being put into practice.
The second half was where this team truly came alive. The football began to flow much more naturally, largely due to the lads taking fewer touches and making better use of the channels. Kestrels produced some excellent passing football, and the goals soon started to come, with a number of different players getting themselves on the scoresheet. While we did lose sight of some of the coaching points towards the end of the game, it was fantastic to see the lads playing with confidence, enjoying themselves, and having so much fun.
Today was all about reinforcing key coaching messages and making sure the lads understood what we are working towards as we prepare for next weekend.
A good performance and plenty of positives to take forward.
