π₯ FROM QUARTER-FINAL TO SEMI-FINAL GLORY β KESTRELS RISE TO THE OCCASION π΅π‘β½οΈ
Today marked the biggest game of our season so far β a Surrey Youth Cup Quarter Final with a place in the semi-finals on the line. After recent weather disruption forced a reverse fixture and last weekendβs postponement, the match was finally played at Frimley Lodge Park on the 3G, ensuring this huge occasion could go ahead.
Standing in our way were Horsley Allstars, a strong SPL Premier Division side β exactly the kind of opposition you expect to face at this stage of the competition. A proper test, and one we knew we had to overcome if we wanted to keep our cup dream alive.
β½ Match Summary
The lads started slowly, taking a little time to settle into the pace and intensity of the game. Horsley looked to move the ball quickly and, at times, caused us problems by going more direct. We allowed too many passes to travel straight through the middle of midfield, which gave them opportunities to test us early on.
But as the half went on, Kestrels grew into the game β and when confidence arrived, so did the breakthrough.
π‘ 1β0 Kestrels
A fantastic run down the left from Zachary opened things up. His well-delivered cross found Max in the middle, who finished clinically to put us ahead and spark belief across the pitch.
π΅ 2β0 Kestrels
The lead was doubled through a trademark corner routine. A consistently excellent delivery from Max met a powerful, perfectly-timed run from Captain Maxi, who rose highest to head home emphatically. A moment of quality β and a crucial goal.
Second Half Control
At half-time, the focus was on improving positioning from goal kicks and protecting ourselves better against the long ball. Credit to the lads β they took the coaching on board brilliantly.
The second half saw a much stronger, more composed Kestrels performance. We won first and second balls far more effectively, moved the ball quicker into wide areas, and created a number of chances through improved composure in attacking areas.
While we left several goals on the pitch, the most important thing was how we managed the game β staying disciplined, organised, and seeing the match through to a safe and well-earned conclusion.

Mytchett Athletic Kestrels 2 β Horsley Allstars 0
π Man of the Match β MAXI
A very well-earned Man of the Match for Captain Maxi. He worked tirelessly from start to finish, commanding the midfield, leading by example, and doing everything possible to drive the team forward. A captainβs performance in every sense.
π¦ A Huge Team Achievement
This is a massive achievement for this new team, and it should not be understated. The lads have worked incredibly hard, and reaching a Surrey Youth Cup semi-final is something they should be extremely proud of. Iβm excited to see what lies ahead, as we continue this journey together.
A special thank you to Joseph and Zachary, who both stepped up to provide cover between the sticks today β a brilliant example of team spirit and commitment.
I also want to acknowledge that fair rotation and balance in games like this is extremely difficult. I understand that some players may not always get extended minutes or play in their preferred positions. Please know that every decision is made with the teamβs best interests at heart. I donβt always get it right β mistakes happen β but we move forward together as one strong, competitive collective.
